Year 6 is a challenging, exciting, memorable and poignant year full of new opportunities, experiences and responsibilities.
At the beginning of the year, a Head Boy, Head Girl and Class Prefects are appointed along with Team and Sports Captains and Vice-Captains for each of our four houses. There are also opportunities to be librarians, which involves organising the library and helping both KS1/KS2 children choose books. The children have also chosen to run competions for both Key Stages. Applications to undertake training and become Play Leaders are welcomed which leads to the planning and implementing of sporting lunchtime clubs for younger children. There is the opportunity to support after-school extra-curricular clubs. We also take on extra responsibilities around the school through a variety of monitor jobs.
Inside and outside the classroom, we are continuously developing our knowledge of the English language through the study of enjoyable books and expressing our thoughts and ideas through writing. In Maths, we are continuing to build on what we have achieved throughout KS2 as well as developing new understanding of increasing complex problems and reasoning.
This year, our foundation subjects are linked to WW1/WW2, Ancient Greece and Crime and Punishment. As part of our WW2 topic we were invited to perform at Alderson House (British Legion) to the retired servicemen. We have also sung at the Humberside Fire and Rescue Christmas Party and at Tescos.
At the end of the year, we have the opportunity to go on a residential trip to the East Barnby Outdoor Education Centre in the North Yorkshire Moors.
What a way to end our time at primary school!
